THE HATTON STORY SO FAR……
We were conceived by our late Chairman and Founder, Mr Arthur Raymond
Hiscox, ARH as he was known. ARH was a self made millionaire and
very much a people person. His catch phrase, or one of them, was
to offer 5 star service at 3 star prices, which is the bedrock of
our mission statement. He was also fiercely loyal and protective
towards those employees who showed loyalty to him and his company.
Much of his personality is still reflected within the operating
characteristics of the company today, and indeed we are still owned
by the Hiscox family as part of their overall business interests
which also include a transport company, a pub company and a joinery
business.
The Snooty Fox at Tetbury was the first Hatton Hotel, being acquired
in 1981, then called the White Hart. The property was completely
refurbished and re-opened with 12 well appointed bedrooms, 40 cover
restaurant, what is still regarded as the best bar in Tetbury. In
2002 the restaurant was refurbished to provide a more casual and
relaxed dining environment.
In 1984, ARH bought The Tara Hotel, Upton St Leonards which occupied
a site overlooking the Severn Vale, once voted by Michelin as the
most spectacular hotel site in Britain. A 3 year development programme
was initiated which came to fruition in 1987 and saw the launch
of what is now Hatton Court with 45 bedrooms, 80 cover restaurant,
3 function/meeting rooms, Cocktail bar and extensive Conference
facilities.
Hatton Court holds a licence for civil ceremonies and is a premiere
wedding venue within Gloucestershire. New for 2007 is THE MARQUEE,
located on the rear lawn of the hotel which can accommodate up to
200 guests.
The Chateâu La Chaire, on the island of Jersey was acquired
in 1986 and has established itself as one of the islands top hotels,
having gained and maintained accolades such as 3 AA Red Stars and
the RAC Gold Ribbon. The Chateau has 14 deluxe bedrooms including
a spectacular split level suite, a 45 cover fine dining restaurant
with conservatory and oak pannelled dining room, an ornate lounge
and pannelled bar. The hotels sits in grounds that were once tended
by Samuel Curtis, a world famous gardener who cultivated the gardens
to benefit from the very special micro climate that benefits Rozel
Valley. Chateau la Chaire is owned by La Trape Ltd, a sister company
of Hatton Hotels Group Services Ltd and is part of the “Hatton
Collection” for marketing purposes
In 1999 we acquired
The
Corner House Hotel in Taunton. This hotel underwent a major
refurbishment and rebranding in 2003 to create the first of a new
type of town centre hotel. The Corner House has 44 modern bedrooms,
64 cover Bar & Bistro 4DQ and a versatile function room that
can seat up to 40 people. This property is taking us into new areas
of hotelkeeping, a move away from our origins in country house properties.
Our aim is to develop the Corner House concept into a chain of 5/6
branded hotels in market towns similar to the size of Taunton. The
Corner House Hotel is owned by Corner House Hotel Ltd, a sister
company of Hatton Hotels Group Services Ltd and is not a part of
the “Hatton Collection”
We also have two sister hospitality companies;
Foxmile Limited, that operate four pubs in Cheltenham.
The Beehive, Slak Bar, The Tivoli, The Fiery Angel
NORDIC INNS, that operate a small inn. The White Hart Inn and the
Winchcombe Wine & Sausage.
The Hiscox family still own the transport company that started the
ball rolling with depots in Newport, Doncaster and Bolton.
Our “Head Office” is at Hatton House, Westbury in Wiltshire.
Over the years the hotels have won numerous awards for their standards
of excellence, probably the most unusual being the 'Loo of the Year
Awards' won by Hatton Court in the late eighties and early nineties,
eventually being asked to withdraw from the competition to give
others a chance. All the hotels and their restaurants are recognised
by the major guides and hotel inspectorates for their quality and
hospitality, and in 1995 the group was awarded the coveted 'Credit
to the Industry Award' by the RAC in recognition of consistently
exceeding expectations
